Summary

Innovation Fund Denmark (IFD) supports Danish researchers, companies, and public organizations participating in international collaborative research and innovation projects. The program operates across four major platforms: EU Horizon Europe Partnerships, Nordic Council of Ministers programmes (NordForsk), EUREKA (including Eurostars), and bilateral agreements with countries such as China, India, USA, and Japan. The fund co-finances the Danish share of these international projects, with investments ranging from EUR 50,000 to EUR 300,000 per Danish partner (up to EUR 500,000 for multiple Danish partners in one project). Only registered Danish legal entities are eligible to apply — enterprises, research institutions, and public bodies that are directly involved in project activities. Funding rates vary significantly by organization type and activity: SMEs can receive up to 75% for industrial research, large enterprises up to 65%, and public research institutions up to 90%. The program follows EU state aid rules (GBER block exemption or de minimis aid). Applications are submitted either through the relevant international secretariat or directly to IFD for bilateral calls, followed by expert evaluation and national funding decisions. The 2025-2027 strategy emphasizes enhanced global focus through existing cooperation platforms, with particular attention to green transition EU partnerships and new collaborations including Japan via EUREKA Globalstars. Current open calls include Chips JU Lab to Fab Accelerators and Eurostars 3 Call 10. The program runs on a rolling basis with deadlines set per individual call announcement.

Historical Context

Innovation Fund Denmark is established under Danish Act No. 1660 (August 12, 2021). The international collaborations programme has been running continuously with evolving guidelines (versions from March 2022, July 2024, and March 2025 are available). The 2025-2027 strategy emphasizes enhanced global focus and new partnerships including Japan via EUREKA Globalstars. The programme operates on a rolling basis with new calls announced periodically across the four collaboration platforms.
