Summary

BlueActionBANOS is an EU-funded initiative (Grant Agreement 101217604, funded via CINEA) led by the SUBMARINER Network that provides targeted funding for sustainable ocean and water actions in the Baltic and North Sea region. The project runs from September 2025 to August 2029 and offers two distinct open calls: Community-Led Actions (CLA) grants of €200,000–€2 million for consortia of 2–12 entities, and Transition Agenda grants of up to €100,000 for individual entities or small consortia of up to 3 partners. The Community-Led Actions call seeks 5–15 projects addressing marine and freshwater pollution, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable blue economy practices. Eligible applicants include regional/local authorities, NGOs, educational establishments, SMEs, research organizations, and other legal entities based in Baltic and North Sea countries (Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden). Projects can run up to 24 months. The Transition Agendas call supports strategic roadmaps for systemic sustainability transitions, covering topics such as decarbonizing coastal zones, circular blue economy, sustainable tourism, fisheries management, marine restoration, and climate adaptation. Both calls use a two-stage application process: a mandatory Project Idea Form (deadline March 16, 2026) followed by a full proposal (deadline May 29, 2026). Beyond funding, beneficiaries receive technical assistance, knowledge exchange, networking, and connections to other EU Mission-related initiatives. The program specifically targets communities including ports, fishing and aquaculture groups, river basin organizations, blue tech innovators, cultural heritage communities, and local financial institutions supporting the blue economy.

Historical Context

BlueActionBANOS is a new EU-funded project running September 2025 – August 2029 (Grant Agreement 101217604). It builds on the earlier BlueMissionBANOS initiative also led by SUBMARINER Network. This appears to be the first round of open calls under BlueActionBANOS. The program expects to fund 5-15 Community-Led Actions.
