Project Scope

• Focus must align with one of three systemic areas: Energy, Land/Food/Forests, or Buildings/Transport (or humanitarian response)
• Work should target emerging and developing economies (top countries: India, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Indonesia)

Constraints

• Grants are large-scale (recent examples range from €1.4M to €18.5M), suited for established organizations
• No public call for proposals, deadlines, or application forms are published

Historical Context

INGKA Foundation was established in 1982 by Ingvar Kamprad. IKEA Foundation was also established in 1982 as a separate Dutch entity. IMAS Foundation was created in 1998 to manage long-term financial returns. The IKEA Foundation has distributed over €2 billion since inception. In 2024, it awarded 44 new grants and supported 119 partners with €349 million. Between 2021-2025, it pledged €1 billion to reduce global emissions.
