Summary

The Interreg North Sea Programme 2021-2027 is a transnational cooperation programme co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), supporting collaborative projects across the North Sea Region. The programme brings together regions from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and parts of France and the UK to address shared challenges and opportunities. The programme is organised around four thematic priorities: (1) Robust and smart economies, (2) Green transitions, (3) Climate resilience, pollution and biodiversity, and (4) Better governance. Specific impact areas include renewable energy, circular economy, blue economy, ecosystem management, water governance, climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture, digital transformation, and green transport. Call 6, expected to open in December 2026, is a capitalisation call with a specific focus on upscaling and transforming outputs from projects funded in the current programme period. Projects may apply for budgets of up to EUR 1 million, include up to nine partners, and run for 1.5 to 2 years. Applications must align with one of three current European agenda themes: increasing competitiveness, stronger rural areas, or building resilience. Geographically, the programme covers the North Sea Region: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden (eligible parts), France (eligible parts), and Switzerland. Both existing Interreg North Sea project partners and organisations new to the programme are eligible to apply in Call 6. Newcomers are specifically encouraged to join Call 6 partnerships. The application process involves a guidance note (to be published May 2026), a GetReady! event on 24 June 2026 in Lille, France, and online project advisor consultations. Applications are submitted through the programme's online portal. The programme's managing authority is located in Viborg, Denmark.

Historical Context

Previous calls covered the full range of programme priorities. The programme has a long track record supporting green transitions, blue economy, circular economies, and ecosystem management.
