Summary
The Wipro Earthian Awards is an annual sustainability education recognition program run by Wipro Foundation, now in its 15th edition (2025). The program invites schools and colleges across India to submit sustainability projects integrating hands-on fieldwork with reflective written analysis. An independent jury selects winning teams who receive certificates and cash prizes. The 2025 cycle drew over 2,000 submissions and recognized 25 teams across themes of biodiversity, waste, and water. Beyond the core school competition, Wipro Earthian operates the Wipro Sustainability Educators Network (SEN), through which regional NGOs collaborate with local communities to conduct nature camps, library sessions, and sustainability schools. In 2025, 24 educators from 14 NGO partners supported this network. Additionally, the "Ideas to Impact (i2I)" challenge — run with IIT Madras since 2023 — targets college students developing eco-innovative prototypes in areas such as Energy, Building Materials, and Water, recognizing 10 teams per cycle. Since its inception in 2011, the program has engaged over 51,000 schools, 210,000 students, and 41,000 teachers. Partners include CEE, CPREEC, Wild Ecologues, IIT Madras, IIM Bangalore, and various state governments. The program is India-centric and primarily oriented toward educational institutions and the NGOs that support sustainability learning. For organizations based in Europe or working on ocean/plastic value chains, this program has limited direct relevance. Eligibility is restricted to Indian schools, colleges, and India-based NGOs in the sustainability education space.
Historical Context
Running since 2011; the 2025 edition is the 15th. The i2I challenge with IIT Madras launched in 2023 and has received 2,700 entries from over 1,300 colleges. The awards ceremony for 2025 was held on January 31, 2026 at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru.
