Historical Context
GIZ has been active in India for over 60 years and currently manages 70 commissions across the country. The waste management portfolio expanded significantly after 2020, with multiple projects launched in alignment with India's 2019 national plastic waste management policy and the 2022 EPR guidelines. In 2022, India and Germany established the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership. The global waste management program (2016-2022) has concluded, while the Circular Economy Solutions project runs through September 2026 and the marine ecosystem protection project through March 2025.
