Historical Context
Program launched in 2010. Fishing for Litter began in 2011 at Burgstaaken on Fehmarn. Schleswig-Holstein co-financing since 2015, Lower Saxony since July 2017. By 2020, 62 tons of debris removed from seafloor across 18 ports with 170 participating fishers. 2023 was a record year for Coastal Cleanup Day with 1,570 participants and 99 cleanup actions.
