Summary

The Danish Green Development and Demonstration Programme (GUDP) Organic RDD 12 is an annual Danish research and innovation funding call for projects within the organic food sector. Managed jointly by ICROFS (International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems) and GUDP (Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries), the 2026 edition has a total budget of approximately DKK 50.5 million with a deadline of May 6, 2026. The thematic scope focuses on organic food production and related sustainability challenges: climate protection, environment, biodiversity, animal welfare, and rural development. Projects must be business-oriented with innovation potential (Type 1, 70% of budget) or focused on organic farming's contribution to public goods (Type 2, up to 30% of budget). Projects address challenges including soil health, crop protection, livestock management, food quality, processing, and market development within organic systems. Eligible activities include research projects (including development and demonstration), field trials, pilot demonstrations, and systematic knowledge dissemination. Projects must have a scientific basis and demonstrate novelty, impact, and relevance. Purely commercial activities or development projects without research content are not eligible. The geographic scope is limited to Denmark and projects within the Danish organic food and farming context. International collaboration may be included but projects must primarily benefit Danish organic farmers and food producers. Eligible applicants include a collaboration of private companies, farmers and agricultural operators, associations and trade organisations, self-governing institutions, and research/knowledge institutions. GUDP encourages broad sector collaboration. Project grants range from DKK 250,000 to DKK 10 million (approx. EUR 33,500 to EUR 1.34M). Applications must be submitted in English via a digital platform. Funding decisions expected by end of 2026.

Historical Context

The Organic RDD programme has run since the 2000s. Organic RDD 12 is the 2026 edition of this annual call, implementing ICROFS Research and Development Strategy 2023 and GUDP's action plan 2026. Funds come from the political agreement on research reserve funds for 2026, earmarked for organic farming and food systems.
