Summary
The Denmark Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its development cooperation agency Danida, provides grant support to Danish civil society organizations (NGOs) engaged in international development work in developing countries. This is not a single call but a portfolio of funding mechanisms targeting Danish development NGOs of varying sizes. Danish development cooperation has four strategic priorities, one of which is green growth based on sustainable management and use of natural resources. Within the green growth theme, Denmark focuses on sustainable food production, access to energy and water, and integrated climate efforts. Other thematic priorities include democracy and human rights, education, and health. Three primary grant mechanisms exist: (1) strategic partnerships and framework agreements for large and medium-sized Danish NGOs, providing multi-year core funding; (2) pooled/delegated funding for collaborative programmes; and (3) project grants for smaller NGOs and innovative organizations. A special funding pool also exists to support innovative NGOs in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Geographically, funding is directed toward developing countries — primarily in Africa and Asia. Danish NGOs with operations in these regions are the primary target applicants. The Ministry does not directly fund foreign organizations; rather, Danish NGOs serve as implementing partners working with local stakeholders. Eligibility is limited to registered Danish civil society organisations. Administrative guidelines are published on Danida's management and grant system (amg.um.dk). For inquiries and applications, organizations contact the HUMCIV department directly at HUMCIV@um.dk. The strategic partnership period covers 2022-2025, with a new round expected to follow.
Historical Context
Denmark's development cooperation through Danida has long supported Danish NGOs through strategic partnerships. The 2022-2026 strategic partnership round was open; a new round presumably follows. The Terra Viva Grants directory entry was published in 2022. The current strategic partnerships period covers 2022-2025.
