Summary

Nordic Innovation launched a combined call for project proposals covering two distinct programmes under the overarching theme of a Green and Competitive Nordic Region. The call is part of Nordic Innovation's mandate to support Nordic cross-border collaboration on innovation and sustainability. The first programme, Innovative Solutions for 2030, targets projects that demonstrably accelerate the green transition and show measurable effects by 2030. Key focus areas include: using new solutions to promote sustainability and economic resilience; commercialisation and market introduction of new green technologies (positioning the Nordic region as an early adopter market); and accelerating sustainable circular economic systems by increasing circular business models, optimising use of resources, and improving organic material and waste stream management. Circular economy, biobased economies, and waste-to-value approaches are explicitly listed priorities. The second programme, Nordic Forward: Resilience and Competitiveness for 2050, focuses on enabling technologies, deep-tech ventures, and strategic cross-border innovation structures to strengthen long-term Nordic competitiveness. It targets critical technology development, technological capability building, and long-term innovation ecosystems. Eligible activities include cross-Nordic innovation projects that create new solutions, partnerships, strengthened value chains, or business models. Projects must demonstrate co-funding from at least 50% of non-Nordic Innovation sources. At minimum 3 Nordic countries must be represented by project partners. Eligible applicants include companies, clusters, cluster organisations, ecosystems, and public sector bodies. NGOs and non-profit membership organisations are not explicitly excluded, provided they participate as part of a multi-partner Nordic consortium and contribute co-funding. Geographic scope is the five Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden). The programme emphasises Nordic added value and joint Nordic challenges. Total call budget is NOK 30 million; individual project funding ranges from NOK 2–6 million (approximately EUR 170k–510k). The application deadline was 11 February 2026 and funding decisions were announced 27 March 2026. The call appears to recur annually.

Historical Context

This call covers two distinct Nordic Innovation programmes: Innovative Solutions for 2030 (green transition) and Nordic Forward: Resilience and Competitiveness for 2050. The call was advertised in late 2025 with a February 2026 deadline. Nordic Innovation is the Nordic Council of Ministers' agency for innovation. This was an annual call; previous calls covered 2021-2024 under different programme names.
