Summary

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN), an initiative of Internews, offers annual media grants to strengthen environmental journalism in low- and middle-income countries. The 2026 Biodiversity Media Grants cycle supports projects that produce in-depth reporting on threats to biodiversity and highlight conservation solutions, helping to build public awareness and inform policy. EJN anticipates supporting 3 to 4 organisations with grants of EUR 10,000–12,000 each. Eligible applicants include media organisations, journalist networks, civil society organisations, and academic institutions operating in World Bank-classified LMICs. Projects may include investigative series, podcasts, and training components for local journalists. The 2026 application deadline is 28 March 2026, with successful applicants notified in April 2026 and project work beginning May 2026. Funded projects are expected to conclude within 12 months, by the end of April 2027. EJN has separate programme tracks including marine conservation (30x30 marine target coverage), forest governance in Africa and Asia, and renewable energy reporting in India. While the Biodiversity Media Grants are the flagship open call, these thematic tracks may also offer opportunities aligned with the organisation activities in East Africa and Southeast Asia.

Historical Context

Annual programme. 2025 cycle preceded this 2026 round. EJN also has parallel story grant tracks for specific topics (marine conservation, forests, energy). Active in Africa and Asia operating regions of the client organisation.
