Summary
The UNDP Vietnam Plastic Innovation Programme is an annual grant challenge that awards small grants to organisations working on innovative solutions to plastic pollution in Vietnam. The programme is funded through a partnership between UNDP, The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF), and the UN Peace and Development Fund (UNPDF) with contributions from the Government of China. The programme offers grants of up to USD 30,000 for six winners and up to USD 10,000 for six runners-up, with a total funding envelope of approximately $240,000 per round. Eligible applicants include NGOs, CBOs, government and non-government academic institutions, and SMEs. Priority is given to women-led and youth organisations. The 2025 round focused on six innovation areas: materials innovation (bio-based alternatives), design innovation, business model innovation, technology solutions, governance system innovations, and financing instruments. The 2025 deadline was March 30, 2025 and winners were honoured in a separate ceremony. This programme is part of the broader three-year TCCF/UNDP Management of Plastic Waste and Circular Interventions initiative covering nine countries in South, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Similar innovation programmes are being launched in other target countries. International NGOs are eligible as applicants. The 2026 round has not yet been announced as of March 2026 but is expected given the ongoing three-year TCCF programme which runs through 2025-2027.
Historical Context
Annual programme since at least 2023. 2024 round ran with similar structure. Part of multi-country TCCF programme ($15M) covering 9 countries. Similar programmes running in Bangladesh, Philippines, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and potentially India under same TCCF funding umbrella.
