Summary

The Interreg South Baltic Programme 2021-2027 supports transnational cooperation projects among partner regions in the southern Baltic Sea area. Eligible countries and regions include Germany (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Berlin), Denmark (Bornholm), Lithuania, Poland, and Sweden (Blekinge, Kalmar, Kronoberg, Skåne counties). The 6th Call for Proposals and 4th Small-Scale Project Call has announced an application window from 16 September to 4 November 2026. This call covers two measures: Measure 1.1 (enterprise and innovation topics) with EUR 1,264,674.99 in ERDF available, and Measure 4.1 (sustainable development and tourism) with EUR 776,297.42 for regular projects and EUR 320,000 for small-scale projects. Project duration is up to 24 months. Thematically relevant measures include Measure 2.3 Supporting a circular and more resource-efficient development — directly relevant to plastic waste, recycling, and circular economy — and Measure 2.2 Promoting sustainable use of water, relevant to marine and coastal water quality. Priority 3 focuses on sustainable tourism development across South Baltic coastal areas. Eligible activities include pilot projects, knowledge transfer, joint feasibility studies, capacity building, stakeholder events, and development of transferable tools and recommendations. Small-scale projects have simplified procedures and smaller budgets. Eligible applicants include public authorities, NGOs, research institutions, and private entities from eligible South Baltic regions. Cross-border partnership required; minimum 2 partner countries. Previous South Baltic call supported the COP project (Circular Ocean Plastic in the South Baltic Sea), confirming programme interest in plastic waste and marine circular economy topics. Target beneficiaries include municipalities, businesses, civil society organisations, and coastal communities in the South Baltic region seeking practical, transferable solutions for sustainable development challenges.

Historical Context

5th Call for Proposals closed November 13, 2025 — 25 applications submitted; results announced March 26, 2026. Previous calls funded COP (Circular Ocean Plastic in the South Baltic Sea) project, demonstrating programme receptivity to marine plastic topics. Regular call cadence approximately every 6-12 months.
