Summary
The Carlsberg Foundation's Semper Ardens Accelerate programme provides three- to five-year framework grants of up to DKK 7 million to support newly appointed tenured associate professors at Danish research institutions in consolidating their independent research groups or environments. The programme is annual and open across all scientific disciplines. Thematic scope is entirely unrestricted; the programme is open to all fields of research including natural sciences, life sciences, humanities, and social sciences. No priority topics are specified; the focus is on career stage and institutional affiliation rather than subject matter. Eligible activities include typical research expenditures: consumables, equipment, travel, research stays, inviting researchers, conferences, and research leadership courses. Salary costs for postdoctoral fellows, PhD students (enrolled at Danish graduate schools), research assistants, and student assistants are eligible. Salary for assistant professors cannot be applied for. Geographic eligibility is restricted to Denmark: applicants must be employed at minimum 80% at Danish research institutions, and the majority of project work must take place in Denmark. International collaborations and short visits abroad are permitted. Eligible applicants are newly appointed tenured associate professors (appointed within 2 years of the deadline) at Danish research institutions. NGOs, non-profits, and private sector entities are not eligible. The grant is an individual career award, not a consortium grant. Target beneficiaries are early-career academic researchers at Danish institutions. No co-funding requirements apply. Grant recipients also receive a complimentary research leadership course and access to a peer network of similar grant holders.
Historical Context
Semper Ardens Accelerate is awarded annually. Grant recipients are also invited to a free research leadership course and networking events with other grant holders.
