Summary
The UNDP Vietnam Plastics Innovation Programme 2026 Call for Proposals invites innovative solutions to address plastic pollution in Vietnam. The programme is part of the UNDP Plastics Innovation Programme (UPIP), which supported 11 innovations in 2025, and the 2026 edition extends this work with new priorities. Thematically, the call focuses on two priority areas: (1) developing models to reduce plastic waste generation and improve waste management in the tourism sector; and (2) supporting effective implementation of national waste collection and sorting at source in specific locations or cities. Applications may address a single initiative or integrate across multiple innovation areas including material innovation (plant-based, biodegradable materials), design innovation (product redesign to eliminate plastic), business model innovation (reusable/refillable systems), technological innovation (recycling systems, monitoring), governance innovation (regulatory instruments, EPR), and innovative financing instruments (plastic credits, EPR, blended finance). Eligible activities broadly cover any novelty that reduces plastic waste, promotes sustainable alternatives, or improves circular economy practices in Vietnam. The geographic scope is exclusively Vietnam. Selected projects must start within one month of receiving the grant agreement and complete all activities by 30 March 2027, making the effective project duration approximately 10-12 months. Eligible applicants are NGOs, CBOs, national or international non-governmental organisations, and non-governmental academic/educational institutions. The team must include at least one female member; women-led organisations and youth applicants are strongly encouraged. The call awards up to USD 40,000 per project for a maximum of two winners. The programme is funded by the 2030 Agenda Sub-Fund (UN Peace and Development Fund) with contributions from China and UN DESA, and implemented by UNDP Vietnam. Application documents are available via UNDP Vietnam's website.
Historical Context

Funded by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund under the UN Peace and Development Fund (UNPDF) with contributions from the Government of the People's Republic of China and UN DESA.
