Summary
The UNDP Georgia Waste Reduction and Circular Economy Development Grants Programme is a call for proposals under an EU-funded Joint Programme aimed at establishing EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) waste management systems in Georgia aligned with EU standards. The programme is jointly implemented by UNDP Georgia with EU funding and focuses on promoting circular economy approaches through strengthening implementation capacities of non-public operational actors. Thematically, the call targets seven specific EPR waste streams: used portable batteries and accumulators, used lead-acid batteries, waste oils, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), packaging, end-of-life tyres, and end-of-life vehicles. Priority is given to initiatives that reduce waste generation, strengthen source-separated collection systems, and/or expand pre-treatment and recycling capacities to reduce landfill disposal and increase resource recovery. Eligible activities include capital investments in infrastructure, equipment, and technologies, as well as operational improvements and innovative service models directly linked to strengthening waste management systems (collection, storage, transportation, treatment, recycling, and/or recovery). Community engagement, system optimisation, behavioural interventions, partnership models, and service innovation are also welcome, provided they demonstrate measurable contributions to EPR waste outcomes. Geographically, this call is limited to Georgia. All applicants must be PROs or NGOs registered in Georgia, with at least two years of relevant experience in waste management and circular economy development, and must demonstrate co-financing of at least 10% of project costs. The programme's theory of change is that providing grants to operationally capable PROs and NGOs will accelerate the establishment of inclusive and equitable EPR schemes aligned with EU standards. Technical and advisory support will be provided to selected grantees. The deadline for applications is 11 May 2026.
