Summary

The WWF India Conservation Catalyst Programme (CCP) is the flagship grant programme of WWF-India supporting grassroots conservationists and organisations working to conserve wildlife and habitat across India. The programme combines a small annual grant (up to 6 Lakh INR per year) with mentoring on communication, networking, institutional development, fundraising, and leadership, making it more than a standard financial award. Thematically, the programme focuses on conservation of lesser-known and neglected species and habitats — past awardees have worked on wolves, pangolins, gibbons, migratory crabs, endemic plants, Himalayan Serow, King Cobras, and habitats ranging from wetlands and grasslands to mangroves and karst caves. The CCP has historically favoured work in neglected areas and on species that lack major institutional support. Eligible activities include species monitoring, habitat conservation, community engagement for human-wildlife conflict mitigation, ecological restoration, and capacity development of grassroots organisations. Geographic scope is limited to India. Eligible applicants include both individual grassroots conservationists and registered organisations working in India. There are no explicit restrictions on organisation type. Applications are made via nomination, with the opportunity for repeat grants for awardees performing well. Budget is modest — up to 6 Lakh INR per year (approximately EUR 6,600). The programme is not a fit for large-scale infrastructure or circular economy projects. The 2026-27 cycle deadline was 31 January 2026 (extended from 22 January 2026). A pre-qualification process selects exceptional nominees.

Historical Context

WWF-India flagship programme with multiple annual cycles since at least 2017. Past awardees have covered species including wolves, migratory crabs, endangered plants, pangolins, gibbons, and habitats including wetlands, grasslands, and mangroves. The 2026-27 cycle deadline was extended to 31 January 2026.
