Summary
The Allianz Foundation, based in Berlin, runs an annual grants program supporting innovative projects in Europe and the Mediterranean. The foundation's mission is to enable better living conditions for future generations, with a focus on civil society empowerment, open societies, and a living planet. Thematic scope covers three areas: (1) Arts & Culture — projects enabling participation, opening community spaces, and advancing cultural change at the intersection of art and climate; (2) European Civil Society — strengthening civil society, democratic resilience, independent media, and cross-border collaboration; (3) Climate & Environment — climate transformation including decarbonization of built environments and liveable cities, and biodiversity conservation through sustainable land use, natural climate protection, and ecosystem-based solutions. Eligible activities include project-based initiatives with systemic approaches, cross-border collaborations, and innovative solutions to social and ecological problems. Not eligible: individuals, building measures, equipment purchases, film productions, scholarships, lobbying, commercial productions, full project financing. Geographic scope: Projects must primarily be implemented in Council of Europe member states or Mediterranean countries. Trans-local dimensions are expected. Eligible applicants: Organizations (NGOs, foundations, civil society groups, and in exceptional cases for-profits). Private individuals are excluded. Applications accepted in German or English. Budget: EUR 80,000–200,000 per project, maximum 24-month duration, starting no earlier than August 1 of the grant year. At least 25% co-funding required. Up to 20% of project costs may be requested as administrative costs without documentation.
