Summary
NORA (Nordic Atlantic Cooperation) is an intergovernmental organisation under the Nordic Council of Ministers that funds cross-border collaboration projects in the North Atlantic region. Its overarching goal is to create a strong and dynamic North Atlantic region characterised by healthy and sustainable economies. The programme targets projects relevant to NORA's seven 2025-2028 priority areas: resource security, artificial intelligence, regenerative tourism, nice places to live, mobility and green transition, marine industries and food production, and silver economy. Projects must align with one or more UN Sustainable Development Goals. Eligible activities include practical collaboration projects, project development and preparatory groundwork, and expansion of partner networks. Research-only projects and purely cultural activities are generally excluded. Projects must involve partners from at least two of the four NORA constituents (Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, coastal Norway). Companies, public institutions, individuals, and other organisations based primarily in the NORA area can apply. Partners from Canada and Scotland are encouraged. Funding covers up to 50% of the total project budget. The maximum annual grant is DKK 500,000 (approximately EUR 67,000), with a three-year total cap of DKK 1.5 million. Funding is approved annually and requires renewal applications each year. Applications are accepted twice per year: deadline in early March (first round, announced mid-January) and early October (second round, announced mid-August). The next deadline is 4 October 2026. Applications are submitted through an online digital form.
Historical Context
