Summary
The BlueActionBANOS Open Call for Community-Led Actions is a Horizon Europe-funded grant scheme (EU grant agreement 101217604) that invites stakeholder groups from Baltic and North Sea countries to submit proposals for locally-driven projects advancing the EU Mission 'Restore our Ocean and Waters'. Between 5 and 15 projects will be selected from this call. The call targets projects that adopt a participatory approach, empowering local stakeholders through inclusive partnerships and leveraging local knowledge and sustainable practices. Priority thematic areas include marine and freshwater ecosystem protection and restoration, pollution prevention (covering chemical, plastic, microplastic, and nutrient pollution), carbon-neutral blue economy development, and climate adaptation. Actions should contribute measurably to one or more EU Mission Ocean and Waters objectives and demonstrate potential for tangible, local change. Eligible applicants are consortia of 2 to 12 entities registered in BANOS countries: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, and Sweden. Entity types eligible include regional and local authorities, NGOs, educational institutions, locally-based companies, research organisations, and SMEs. Entities from other EU Member States may participate under special conditions. Projects must have a maximum duration of 24 months. Grants range from EUR 200,000 to EUR 2,000,000 per consortium, at a 100% funding rate. The maximum award per single entity within a consortium is EUR 500,000. Payments are structured as lump sums with project stages and deliverables defined in an Individual Integrated Project Plan agreed at onboarding. The application process is two-stage. Applicants first submit a Project Idea Form through the online portal, followed by individual consultations with BlueActionBANOS advisers. Full proposals are then submitted. Technical assistance is available throughout project implementation from scientific experts, technical specialists, and EU Mission Ocean practitioners. The submission deadline is 29 May 2026, 14:00 CET.
