Summary
NordForsk, through the Joint Committee of the Nordic Research Councils for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS), has launched a call for proposals to establish Nordic Exploratory Networks. The program targets early-career researchers who completed their PhD between 2 and 7 years ago, providing them the opportunity to build and lead collaborative research networks spanning at least four Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden). The total available budget is up to 33 MNOK (approximately €2.9 million), with individual networks able to request up to 1.5 MNOK (approximately €130,000). Funding covers coordination costs, travel, and activities within the Nordic countries, with salaries capped at 20% of the budget (maximum 300,000 NOK). No co-financing is required. Overhead costs are permitted according to institutional guidelines. Applications undergo a distributed peer review process in which applicants also serve as reviewers for competing proposals. Decisions will be announced in October 2026, with projects expected to commence in early 2027. The program is exclusively for researchers employed at Nordic institutions; Baltic country nationals are only eligible if employed at a Nordic institution.
