Summary

MUDP Development, Test and Demonstration Projects 2026 is an annual grant call administered by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (Miljøstyrelsen) and its MUDP Board. The programme funds the development, testing, and demonstration of new, innovative environmental technologies that advance beyond existing Danish and EU environmental standards and create export opportunities for Danish environmental technology companies. Thematic scope follows MUDP's 2024-2027 strategy and 2026 action plan, which cover a broad range of environmental technology priorities including: water purification and wastewater treatment, circular economy and waste management, air quality and emissions reduction, climate adaptation technologies, environmental monitoring and data, and soil remediation. The programme is explicitly technology-developer oriented, prioritising projects with environmental technology novelty value — either new solutions or significant improvements to existing technologies (new combinations, new applications, significant cost reductions). Eligible activities include industrial research, technology development, pilot testing, and demonstration of environmental technology solutions in relevant scales. Costs for personnel hours, equipment and materials, subcontractors (up to 30% of budget), and knowledge institution collaboration are co-financeable. The programme does not support routine operations, sales, or activities lacking environmental technology novelty. Geographic scope is Denmark-primary; however, international projects are allowed if they meet the same environmental performance standards (must exceed applicable EU and Danish regulatory requirements). Partners from outside Denmark can participate. Eligible organisations are primarily private companies (SMEs and large enterprises), public utilities/enterprises (water companies, waste management companies), and research institutions (universities, GTS institutes). Public authorities (municipalities, government agencies) cannot apply. Consortium projects involving multiple organisations are common and often strengthen applications. NGOs and advocacy organisations are not listed in MUDP law §8 eligible categories. The total pool for development, test, and demonstration projects in 2026 is approximately DKK 61 million. Grant percentages depend on company size and activity type under EU state aid rules. Payments are made in arrears; applicants can request partial payments upon completion of project stages. Applications are submitted via MitID-authenticated online portal. Deadline: 19 May 2026 at 12:00.

Historical Context

MUDP (Miljøteknologisk Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram) is an annual programme administered by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (Miljøstyrelsen). The Board operates on 4-year strategies; current strategy covers 2024-2027. Development, test, and demonstration projects are one of four instrument types (alongside pre-projects, ETV projects, and lighthouse projects). In 2026, approximately DKK 61 million is allocated to this instrument. Previous rounds have supported technologies across water, waste, circular economy, energy efficiency, and air quality domains.
