Summary

The Coastal and Island Protection Funding Programme is administered by the Niedersaechsischer Landesbetrieb fuer Wasserwirtschaft, Kuestenschutz und Naturschutz (NLWKN) and provides grants for infrastructure-based coastal protection along the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony. Geographic scope is strictly limited to Lower Saxony's coastal and tidal areas (North Sea coast, islands, and tidal stretches of rivers). Eligible applicants are limited to public bodies: the Land itself, other public law corporations, and parties with statutory maintenance obligations for coastal water bodies. Private entities and NGOs are not eligible. Funding is provided as non-repayable grants of up to 100% of eligible costs. The programme is financed under the federal-state GAK framework. Applications are made directly to NLWKN.
